Combottes er en 1. Cru af ekstraordinær kvalitet. Alene beliggenheden mellem Grand Cru Clos de la Roche og Grand Cru Latricières Chambertin antyder det. Når marken ikke har Grand Cru status, er det ifølge Benoit Stehly fordi, 80% af marken er ejet af Morey St. Denis avlere. Gevrey-Chambertin avlerne ønskede derfor ikke, at marken skulle være Grand Cru! Kvaliteten er superb, og vinen har virkelig finesse, elegance, aromatisk styrke og længde.
95 point - James Suckling: "At once deep and fragrant, this has the concentration and complexity of a grand cru on the extremely focused, medium-bodied palate. The sour-cherry and red currant fruit suddenly bursts out of the wine at the long, vibrant finish. From a half-hectare parcel. Matured in small oak barrels of which 40% were new. Drinkable now, but best from 2026."
